(100th) Book Review: Give Him No Rest

Give Him No Rest

Author: Erroll Hulse; Publisher: Evangelical Press; Length: 144 pages; Available From: Evangelical Bookshop

This book is a call for Christians to obey the instruction in Isaiah’s prophecy that we give the Lord no rest until He makes Jerusalem (the church) the praise of the earth (Is. 62:6-7); in other words, it is a call to prayer for revival. Basically, Erroll Hulse wants Christians to persevere in pleading with the Lord to pour out His Spirit on the earth. To this end, he lays down general principles defining what a revival is, what it is not, and the central place of gospel preaching in a revival.

Moreover, Pastor Hulse seeks to encourage us by pointing out that the doctrine of repentance demands that we pray for revival, showing us examples of revival in church , the promises of Scripture which assures us that Christ’s kingdom will flourish and how the Lord is saving multitudes of sinners around the world today. Apart from a couple of silly comments about Christian Reconstruction (pp 36-37), this is a most encouraging read which will hopefully provoke believers to be much in prayer for the advance of the gospel.

I have not read that one yet, though it looks very interesting. I am not sure if I would fully go along with Gary North on the US constitution, though I will have to give him a hearing.
